  • Filipa - Studio Manager

Filipa Marques, a self taught ceramic artist. With a personal preference for wheel thrown ceramics, inspiration for my work comes from the natural world and by surroundings.

  • Katie - Tutor

During my studies doing Three Dimensional Design my practice explored many mediums and themes as I began my investigations through sculptural and installation forms. However, after graduating I found myself drawn to the beauty of everyday objects and how they can bring joy to our daily lives.

Becoming a ceramics teacher has positively influenced my practice as exploring new techniques and processes continuously develops my own practice. All of my pieces are unique and explore different decorative techniques.

It’s important to me that I keep the human touch visible in everything that I make. I love the small imperfections that make something treasured truly special, just like the beautifully flawed bodies that have inspired much of my earlier work. In a world where we all feel compelled to relentlessly strive for perfection and many of the objects in our homes are mass-produced, I’m hoping my pieces can inspire a love for the beauty of the irregular, uneven and imperfect.

  • Nina - Tutor

Nina VHVK, is a Manchester based sculptress specialising in contemporary ceramic design and sculpture.

Intimately connected with nature, Nina grew up in rural Switzerland, enabling her imagination to draw endless inspiration from her childhood surroundings. When viewing her work, one can see how mountainous landscapes and natural formations have inspired their tactile textures and intriguing spaces that beg to be touched and explored. Serendipity and spontaneity are driving forces when creating these surreal forms. Entering a meditative state, she engages in a playful interaction with the clay where she enjoys pushing its boundaries whilst also learning it’s limits.

  • Chris - Tutor

I feel hugely privileged to have found ceramics as a practice that both produces beautiful and practical objects, and is also calming and meditative. In my own work I try to take on new techniques and make as broader range of shapes and styles as I can. Clay is such a flexible medium and, thankfully, can always be re-used if things don’t go as planned! Teaching has brought a new perspective to my work. I’m passionate about introducing new people to this brilliant artform and sharing the joy it can bring.

  • Georgie - Tutor

Georgie is a wheel throwing teacher from Manchester. She's taught pottery for nearly 10 years and spent the last 7 in Melbourne, Australia working at a number of pottery studios providing general studio assistance and teaching taster classes and beginner and intermediate courses. Georgie makes her own functional wheel thrown forms as GEO, working from a small studio upstairs at Wellington Studios.Georgieis inspired by everyday architecture and the city - earthy tones found in terracotta bricks, cobbled streets and chimney pots. Equally, as an appreciator of colour and of experimentation, she hopes there is a sense of a playfulness or contrast of light and dark in her work as well.
